Sorry for so many exclamation points, but my cookbook officially comes out June 4, aka next week, a day that felt miles away 2.5 years ago when I signed my book deal. I am going on a crazy but fun book tour and the first half kicks off tonight with a talk at Now Serving, this charming cookbook store in LA, with one of my all time favorite humans, Tejal Rao.
I am feeling mostly excited and somewhat overwhelmed with a healthy dose of dread. I have had multiple people call my book tour ~ ambitious~ but I am not a white woman selling roast chicken recipes! I must sing the praises of chili cheese toast and chaat masala and curry leaves and pressure cookers as many places as possible.
Even though I am used to traveling so much thanks to my former gig as the restaurant editor at Food & Wine, it feels very strange to be traveling this much to promote my own project — any one have great tips for how to not lose your voice when travel and talking so much?
I have many incredible events lined up with many of my favorite chefs, fellow cookbook authors, and restaurants — you can see the full roster below. If you don’t see your city listed, and would like a tour stop, please let me know in the comments! We are still building out the second half of the tour and will take them into consideration.
This Saturday I head to NYC for a whole week of book events including an INDIAN HIGH TEA (or high chai??) with the boys from Kolkato Chai Co at the location inside of Inday in Williamsburg on Sunday. So if you’ve watched the new season of Bridgerton and or love high tea, come through!

Scoop of Ice Cream of Awan
Awan, the glorious Indonesian ice cream company, recently opened a new scoop shop in LA and it looks straight out of the set of Dune. I love the aesthetics, and have always loved their ice cream, which happens to be dairy-free. It gets its richness from its coconut base! I swung in with a friend and am still thinking about the valencia orange flavor which has a creamsicle vibe to it with a wonderful tart finish.
Samosa (!) Lumpia (!)
The samosa lumpia from my LA cookbook launch party at Lasita! It’s a dream i’ve always had and Nico, the super talented chef, made it happen. I low key think lumpia are the correctly shape for samosas. The thinness means you get crispy shell in every bite (the worst part of the samosa is when you have just a glob of filling), and it’s shaped perfectly for dunking into chutney! Thank you to the staff at Lasita for always bringing the vibes, to OpenTable for sponsoring the party, and to Nomadica for providing wine!!
