Hello! Keeping today’s newsletter on the shorter end. I haven’t been feeling the best the past couple of days and I feel deeply behind on work, so I have not had the chance to eat through/read through/cook through as many things as I would have liked this week.

(I’ve been filling my moments of procrastination with dreams of trips I would like to take in the next 9-12 months. I’ve spent the past 7 months very intentionally ground myself, but I feel the wanderlust itch starting to come back, and so has a growing list of cafes and bakeries i’d like to visit in Tokyo, London, and Paris.)

Earlier this week, I did have the chance to attend a dinner at BOA steakhouse in West Hollywood, where I got to sample Beyond Meat’s new (deeply realistic) plant-based steak. I also came across what might be my favorite Caesar salad in LA and my new favorite Trader Joe’s find of all time? (If you follow me on any other platform, you’ve probably already seen me rave about this.)

Also I am officially back on my quest to find LA’s best pancakes (will be dropping a story very soon), so please let me know if you have any favorites! Okay today let’s just get straight into it.

THE GOOD

  • Trader Joe’s new canned orange espresso tonics. I have never been so impressed with a ready to drink coffee product, especially one in a can. They got the ratio of espresso to tonic just write and the hint of orange is actually quite lovely and fresh. It’s not too sweet, as well. I am surprised more brands haven’t bothered trying to do a bottled or canned espresso tonic given how popular the drink has become. It’s also much more affordable than a version at a cafe: they typically go for $7-$8 dollars here in LA, while the canned version costs just over a $1 each at my Trader Joe’s.
