Hello! I hope you have eaten well this week.
Whenever I am feeling the shoppies, I like to go this incredible Korean grocery store near my house, California Market, and splurge on the good good fruit. They have the best prices on even the most elite of fruits, and this time I walked out with 3 pack of Asian pears, 4 lbs of sumo mandarins (the cheapest I’ve ever seen), and a pack of Shine Muscat grapes. These grapes often sell for $40 a pack, and I found them at $16 per pack. Still the most I’ve spent on grapes. There are TikTok’s dedicated to how great these grapes are: they are huge, perfect looking, with a pleasant spring green color, and neat packaging. I will let you know if they were worth it in a future newsletter!
This week, we are headed to New Orleans, one of my favorite food cities (and hotel cities! more on that soon) of all time. I would go approximately 2-3 time a year for work, and it’s one of the few things I miss about my old job. When most people think of New Orleans, they like to think of the classic, tourist heavy restaurants like Brennan’s and Commander’s Palace. Both restaurants are great, but there is so much more to the city, so my list is light on those things. This list is also is not a comprehensive one, so I will likely do a part two, soon. Before you ask, it doesn’t include Ana Castro’s Lengua Madre because she is leaving that concept and opening a new one called Acamaya that I cannot wait to eat at.
Below, where to get the best sandwiches (both po boys and not!), pastries, and beautiful cocktails in New Orleans — and the one tourist trap that is actually worth it.
