I hate myself for enjoying the chobani sweet cream creamer and I’ve convinced myself it’s not as bad as the other ones. A long time “whole milk only” coffee girl I recently allowed myself to indulge - is it terrible for me and I’m falling for marketing?! Say it ain’t so!
So interesting. I like novelty so I’ve tried many, and I wish they came in smaller packaging! It’s hard to get through them before expiration if you only use a splash or two.
Ok I'm FASCINATED with the creamer aisle too but I've found that in my family, it's my dad and my aunt who are always trying/excited about the new flavors. So maybe it's a cross-generational appeal that makes it so profitable. And the fact that a lot of people really can't drink they're coffee black, lol. Also wondering if there's a psychological draw, like I'm only putting a tbsp of this creamer in my coffee, so the more indulgent flavors are more permissible in one's (diet culture ruined) mind. We! Love! Little! Treats!
My extremely unsubstantiated and completely anecdotal theory is that I think the rise of weird coffee creamer flavors is because the main historic driver of Novelty In Beverages (cocktails) is taking a hit from Gen Z sobriety kicks, so people are turning their creativity and quest for new libations towards doctoring other, non-alcoholic beverages. Also, the importation of Taiwanese style pearl milk tea shops might have influenced coffee culture in the US towards the sweeter, milkier, and more flavored.
I have never seen that much coffee creamer in one store. I've noticed that a lot of people don't like coffee, they like creamer with a splash of caffeine.
As a snobby millennial that likes single-origin- ethically-sourced- naturally processed-freshly roasted coffee beans (I drink my coffee black mostly) I’m curious how else we can try these fun creamers! Love the soda idea, but seems like there are endless possibilities?

Agree! I think the creamer obsession skipped the millennials but i grew up with all my friends parents drinking them, so it’s like boomers and gen z?!

This was super interesting and made me happy my own personal fridge real estate isn’t filled with this stuff.
